DESCRIPTION:John Wills Lloyd\, Ph.D.\, received his Ph.D. from the University of Oregon and is a Professor Emeritus\, University of Virginia’s School of Education and Human Development\, Charlottesville\, VA. Lloyd specializes in learning and behavior problems\, reading instruction\, and research methods. His studies of the characteristics of students with learning and behavior problems and of procedures for addressing those problems have appeared in dozens of education\, special education\, and behavioral psychology journals. In addition\, he has written chapters for edited volumes and books for use by teachers. In aggregate\, he has authored\, co-authored\, edited\, or co-edited more than 150 publications. He has directed or co-directed funded projects on learning disabilities\, emotional and behavioral disorders\, and reading. DESCRIPTION:Dave Edyburn\, Ph.D.\, is Senior Research Scientist and Professor Emeritus at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Most recently he served as Associate Dean for Research in the College of Community Innovation and Education at the University of Central Florida. His research and teaching interests focus on the use of technology to enhance teaching\, learning\, and performance; the nexus of human and machine learning; special education technology research; and universal design for learning. During 2021 he serves as President of the Pioneers Division of the Council for Exceptional Children. Dr. Edyburn has served as Editor of numerous professional journals\, including: Journal of Research in Education\, Learning Disability Quarterly\, Remedial and Special Education\, Special Education Technology Practice\, and Teaching Exceptional Children. He is the Guest Editor for an upcoming special issue of Assistive Technology Outcomes and Benefits. \n\nSpecial educators were among the early adopters of microcomputer technologies in the 1980s. As a result of the long-term investments in research and development\, assistive technologies have emerged to become essential tools for fostering independence and enhancing quality of life for individuals with disabilities.
