DESCRIPTION:Dave Edyburn\, Ph.D.\, is Senior Research Scientist and Professor Emeritus at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Most recently he served as Associate Dean for Research in the College of Community Innovation and Education at the University of Central Florida. His research and teaching interests focus on the use of technology to enhance teaching\, learning\, and performance; the nexus of human and machine learning; special education technology research; and universal design for learning. During 2021 he serves as President of the Pioneers Division of the Council for Exceptional Children. Dr. Edyburn has served as Editor of numerous professional journals\, including: Journal of Research in Education\, Learning Disability Quarterly\, Remedial and Special Education\, Special Education Technology Practice\, and Teaching Exceptional Children. DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the CEC 100th Anniversary Series in celebration of Elizabeth Farrell and the founding of the Council for Exceptional Children.  Dr. Kimberly Kode Sutton’s presentation on The Lasting Impact of Elizabeth Farrell on Special Education is the sixth in our series of 12 presentations in celebration of the life and work of Elizabeth Farrell. \nDr. Kimberly Kode Sutton was born in Milwaukee\, Wisconsin\, and completed both undergraduate and graduate education at Old Dominion University and doctoral studies at Marquette University. \nDr. Kode Sutton is an Associate Professor of Education\, Special Education Program Coordinator\, and Chair of the Department of Education at York College of Pennsylvania.  She teaches courses including Special Education Processes and Procedures; Evidence-Based Instruction: Students with Emotional and Behavioral Disorders; and Assistive and Augmentative Technology.  The focus of her research and publications is on novice teachers\, collaboration\, effective teaching strategies\, and assistive technologies.  She reviews manuscripts for professional journals that focus on teacher education\, content area teaching\, and youth mental health. \nDr. Kode Sutton’s research on the life and work of Elizabeth Farrell is unparalleled.  We extend heartfelt gratitude to her for the many hours she spent combing through historical documents\, conducting interviews with family members\, and learning all she could about a rather unknow woman who changed our world.  We celebrate the publication of her work\, Elizabeth Farrell and the History of Special Education (2nd ed. 2017). DESCRIPTION:The Illinois Council for Exceptional Children will hold its annual convention  via Zoom.
