Teaching Content & Literacy to Students with Dis/abilities: Using Literacy
Across the Disciplines
This session will cover an overview of disciplinary literacy and what it means for
students with dis/abilities. Disciplinary literacy is one approach to teaching
comprehension and content concurrently at the secondary level. Discussion and
demonstration of aspects of the three pillars (habits of thinking and practice,
language use, and epistemology) of disciplinary literacy will show how it works with
multimodality, digital literacies, and is student-centered. It will include practical,
research-informed and evidence=based strategies that teachers and leaders can
bring back to their classrooms, ready for implementation!
